Gifted reading & math
As our District continues to improve programming and comply with the State of Ohio Gifted guidelines, 4th grade gifted students will learn their academic reading and math through advanced and differentiated instruction for 60 minutes Monday-Friday with me. 3rd grade gifted students will learn their academic reading through advanced and differentiated instruction for 60 minutes Monday-Friday with me as well. The 3rd and 4th grade reading curriculum will follow our current Harcourt Reading Series "Storytown". The math curriculum for 4th grade follows our current McGraw-Hill math series "My Math." I will be their teacher of record and provide direct reading instruction; assessing and grading their work. I am very excited about helping 3rd and 4th graders reach their potential this year.
Importantly, only 3rd grade students will continue to meet weekly in a pullout program 90 minutes a week . The Math Program is a non-graded pullout program for identified math students, in grade three. Students will spend two 45 minute sessions a week in the Challenge classroom. The goal for the Math Program is to provide opportunity for growth through enrichment activities in math. These experiences will reinforce classroom skills that also extend and go beyond regular classroom curriculum. In depth study of math topics will help students develop critical thinking skills, learn techniques for creative problem solving and self-evaluation.
For those student who did not qualify for gifted reading or math, but have been identified as gifted in one of those academic areas, will receive weekly enrichment. Students will meet with me twice a week. Activities will include both math and reading enrichment, differentiated for each student. These activities will encourage students to think creatively and critically.
Expectations: (3rd grade & 4th grade reading & math classes)
*Come to class prepared with your work, assignment pad & take-home folder
* Assignments are recorded immediately upon entering the classroom. Check the assignment board.
*Parents should sign completed work and write any questions on their child's pad.
*4th grade students who do not have homework completed on time will be sent to P.A.S.S. during lunch re-
cess.
*If the assignment is not completed on time, students will be sent to P.A.S.S. during lunch recess. If the work
is not completed during P.A.S.S, work will be sent home and due the next day.
