4th grade Reading and Math
Monday-Friday, 60 minutes
As our District continues to improve programming and comply with the State of Ohio Gifted guidelines, 4th grade Challenge students will learn their academic reading and math through advanced and differentiated instruction for 60 minutes Monday-Friday with me. I will be their teacher of record and provide direct reading instruction, assessing and grading their work. I am very excited about helping 4th graders reach their potential in this endeavor.
REMINDERS:
We have started our Mythology unit and will continue this unit for the next 6 weeks. In addition, we are starting our chapter book, "Thieves of Ostia" to go along with our study of mythology.

4th Grade Reading & SpellingReading in "Wonders" comprises a lesson per week. Vocabulary, reading and writing activities will be part of our regular routine. Novel studies will also be a part of our curriculum, occurring 2-3 times during the year. This will include research and project based learning activities.
4th graders will learn spelling as part of English/Language Arts curriculum. Spelling is taught during their reading time each day for one hour, Monday- Friday. Their spelling list corresponds to the reading lesson and accompanying literature they read each week. They will be tested on the vocabulary words from the stories in the book. Additional "Power" words are added each week and will also be part of the test. |
MATH: My Math Curriculum
Review for AIR test
Math -I am excited to tell you that we will be using a new online supplemental math program - TenMarks, which will provide students with additional math practice & support. This program enables students to practice and master math concepts in conjunction with our daily/weekly lessons and are aligned with the new Common Core. Students can access video tutorials if they need further explanation or support. They can practice on their own anytime. I will be assigning problems throughout the week and sometimes over the weekend. As we get closer to OAAs, I will be asking more of them. As part of their preparation I will also assign Study Island for them to do.
Here is the TenMarks website address: www.tenmarks.com
REMINDER: Complete at least 2 assignments by due date of each week.
Math: Practice your facts every day.
