3rd grade Reading & Spelling
As our District continues to improve programming and comply with the State of Ohio Gifted guidelines, 3rd grade Challenge students will learn their academic reading & math through advanced and differentiated instruction for 60 minutes Monday-Friday with me. I will be their teacher of record and provide direct reading instruction, assessing and grading their work. I am very excited about helping 3rd graders reach their potential in this endeavor.
3rd graders will learn reading, spelling & vocabulary as part of gifted programming. We continue to use McGraw-Hill "Wonders" curriculum. Weekly stories with comprehension, spelling & vocabulary are taught during their reading time each day for one hour, Monday- Friday. Their Vocabulary list corresponds to the reading lesson and accompanying literature they read each week. Additional "Power" words are added each week. They will be required to take a spelling test on the spelling and Power vocabulary words for each story. You can download the pdf file if you forget to take your spelling list home to study.
Supplemental materials, such as our weekly Time For Kids, a current events magazine, novel studies, poetry units and project based research, are all part of the differentiated curriculum.
